What does a spider bite look like?

Spider bites usually start as red, inflamed bumps that look like mosquito bites. Sometimes you might notice two tiny dots in the middle. In the Portland Oregon area, spider bites are relatively uncommon, and almost always non-life threatening. 

Yellow sac spiders are a rare cause for inflamed spider bites, but again is not known to be deadly. Try to save the spider if you are bitten. And, if your spider bite turns black, blue, or you notice any symptoms, you should contact your health care professional for medical advice.

• Spiders are solitary; they do not live in colonies or group together.
• Spiders have claws on the ends of their feet.
• They can “balloon” or ride sails made of silk on the wind to disperse.

• Frequent inside sightings of house centipedes often indicates a moisture issue nearby.

How to Prevent Spider Webs Outside?

We’re all familiar with the uncanny feeling–and subsequent panic– of walking into a spider web. The best way to prevent spider webs outside from becoming a nuisance is to keep your shrubs & vegetation trimmed away from the house. Consider moving any shrubs that are within 3-5′ of the house, as they can cause spiders & other pests to set up safe harborage where they can bother you.

Are Wolf Spiders Dangerous?

Wolf spiders in Oregon are not known to be dangerous. Thin-legged wolf spiders in the genus Pardosa are common in Portland. But they’re not likely to bite or harm you, and actually eat other bugs, flies, and arthropods.
